Your Story Well Told

Public·69 members

Once upon a time, there was a very tired parent who just wanted to go to sleep. Unfortunately, their child had other plans.

"Tell me a story!"

Sound familiar?

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Scary Mommy about the fine art of telling bedtime stories when you've got absolutely nothing left in the tank.

And apparently, I'm not the only one who's been there. Their Instagram post about our conversation has already racked up more than 112,000 views!

We talked about some of the tricks I learned telling stories to my own kids, including why sometimes the BEST bedtime story is a BORING one. (Seriously. You're trying to get them to sleep, not keep them on the edge of their seats.)

We also explored how to recycle stories, let kids do more of the imagining, and use a simple storytelling structure to create something together.

Because here's the thing: Bedtime storytelling isn't about putting on a great performance. It's about making a connection. And sometimes, if you're lucky, you learn something about what's going on in your kid's head along the way.

These are some of the same techniques I share in my latest book, A Story for Everything, so it was a real treat to talk about them with Scary Mommy's enormous audience.

Thanks to Scary Mommy for the opportunity!
