Men playing a "Thank You" game.

What This Game Teaches

This exercise builds collaboration, support, and the ability to “yes, and” physically by reinforcing trust and responsiveness.

Group Size

Full group

Time

5–15 minutes

Energy Level

Medium

How to Play

One player steps into the center and strikes a pose.

A second player joins, adding a complementary pose.

The first player says “Thank you” and exits, leaving the second player.

A new player joins the remaining player, creating a new image.

Repeat the pattern continuously.

Variations

Encourage faster transitions

Introduce themes or environments

Use as a lead-in to “I Am a Tree”

Why It Works

This game reinforces support over perfection.

Participants learn to contribute even when they don’t have the “best” idea, which builds trust and momentum in group work.

Pro Tips

Don’t let players stay in the center too long.

Encourage joining as an act of support.

Keep the flow moving.

Origins / References

Derived from physical “yes, and” improvisation exercises.  I learned this from Chris Sams at BATS Improv.

Try This In Real Life

Support ideas early instead of waiting for perfect contributions.
